COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the most recently discovered coronavirus. This new virus and disease were unknown before the outbreak began in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. COVID-19 is now a pandemic affecting many countries globally. The spread of novel Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) in Nigeria continues to rise as the latest statistics provided by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control reveal Nigeria now has 13,464 confirmed cases. On the 9th of June 2020, 663 new confirmed cases and 4 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.
There are lots of photojournalists and documentary photographers documenting during this outbreak, telling stories because they have to be told for future purposes. The virus spread like wildfire threatening both immediate and long term health security of our dear nation. Our health safety is very important amidst this.
Most infected people with mild to moderate symptoms are recovering but some are progressing to severe cases with serious fatalities. Common symptoms include fever, dry cough, tiredness, aches and pains, sore throat, diarrhea, conjunctivitis, headache, loss of taste or smell, a rash on the skin, or discoloration of fingers or toes. Serious symptoms include difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, chest pain or pressure, loss of speech, or movement. Seek immediate medical attention if you have serious symptoms. Always call before visiting your doctor or health facility.
Some western, traditional, or home remedies may provide comfort and alleviate symptoms of mild COVID-19, there are no medicines that have been shown to prevent or cure the disease. I came across this traditional remedy from a friend, so I decided to share it. Items needed include:
4. Neem leaf (Dongoyaro).
(Can be bought in your local market)
1. Peel and cut ginger, garlic, and lime into pieces.
2. Boil them with the Neem leaf, adding a substantial amount of water. Boil for 10 minutes.
3. Once it’s done, it’s ready for a drink.
This herbal drink is highly recommended as it boosts your immune system against foreign bodies, flushes out toxins from your body, and fights infections.
Fruits and vitamins are also suggested by medical personnel, it also helps to boost the immune system.
